When I was commissioned to create 2068, I was shocked by the list of elements
I was supposed to include. It's really an all-inclusive image, reflecting multiple genres, and an example of something
I normally don't draw unless commissioned. I put in a lot of playful elements, though, and actually had a good
time. Looking at it now, I probably should have included something more dynamic and eye-catching in the foreground,
but I think the drawing's still lots of fun.
Take a look at the red globe in the lower left corner of the image. I hope it looks like a sun/star. I created
it by attaching tissue paper to a wooden ball, tearing the edges, painting it blue, taking a copy, and inverting
the colors. The images on the lower right cover of this page show the original photo, the solarization done on
the copier, and the solarization done on the computer. For a sun image, some readers are probably wondering why
I didn't use a public domain astronomy image, but this is just an example of the inexplicable and obsessive things
people like me do.
